The New People's Charter
The New People's Charter is a conceptual, site specific project based at the Westgate Hotel, Newport. My intention was to engage with the hotel's history in the Newport Uprising and create a series of installations to initiate conversation and develop a new peoples charter. This document would be discussing the demands from the local community allowing their collective voice be to be sent onto the Senedd.
Locale
This Hotel was the site of the Newport Uprising in 1839, thousands of angry chartist reformers stormed the city intending to fight for the release of fellow party members and protest the refusal to legalise the peoples charter, 1838.

journey through the space
A series of three emotive installations takes over the first floor of the hotel, each space represents a different issue effecting Newport in the1838 charter and reflects the modern iteration in 2022. I formed separate writings for the rooms by researching local news articles and interviews, the writings are suggestive support for the audience to help guide them as they travel through the space.
Direction through space - Model - Writings
When visiting the performance the audience will experience two ears: 1939 and 2022. The time period will overlap as modern day reformists voice the demands of the 1938 charter outside the building...
Upon entering the hotel the audience is greeted with shadowed figures of the past floating through the hallways...
